Slope-Intercept Equation...Help

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-05-11] [Hit: ]
just plug in the values and then you do the rest :-).b is the y intercept and a is the slope...........
Could you assist me with writing the slope-intercept equation for the line that passes through
(6, -9) and has slope -7/6?

-
y= -7/6x - 2
substitute X for 6 and see what you get it makes sense to me but i could be wrong.

haha i knew it someone would make a reply with an explanation.

anyway since the equation is y=ax + b
then our slope is -7/6

so now it is y= -7/6x + ____
if you substitute the x value with 6 you get
-7/6(6) you get -42/6 which can be simplified into -7
so now it equals y= -7 now since we know it cannot be plus something then the y intercept must be a negative (a positive plus a negative = negative)

so y= -7 + (-2)
y=9

im bad at explaining xD

I will just give you an idea, just plug in the values and then you do the rest :-).

The slope intercept equation is of the form: y = ax + b

b is the y intercept and a is the slope.....

we know slope is -7/6

since, we know the line goes through (6,-9) we know if we plug in 6 for x, then y should be equal to -9...

so...

y = (-7/6) x + b

now, plug in (6, -9) into the above equation for x and y and solve for "b"

So now you have values for a = (-7/6) and b you will get from teh steps I told you above...

so the final equation will be

y = (-7/6) x +

Y=-7/6x+-3
