Here's the problem. It's from one of the earlier chapters and I can't remember how to do it and its going to be on the final. So your help would be GREATLY appreciated! It's a muliple choice question too, but I need to see how you got there so it doesn't look like I guessed. Thanks!
Write the equation of a line that passes through the point (-1,4) and has a slope of -1.
a. y=-x+4
b. y=-2x+1
c. y=-x+3
d. y=-2.5x+3
I know its either a or c because of the slope being -1. I just need to find how to get the other numbers in there! Thanks!

At x = -1, y = 4. Plugging these in for (a), 4 = 1 + 4 = 5 doesn't make sense. For (c), we get 4 = 1 + 3 = 4, so it must be (c).

Using the equation y=mx+c where c is the constant and m the slope
y=4, x= -1 and m= -1
4= -1(-1) + c
so c would be 3
Hence the answer to your problem would be c) y= -x + 3
Hope this helped!
y=4, x= -1 and m= -1
4= -1(-1) + c
so c would be 3
Hence the answer to your problem would be c) y= -x + 3

The answer is C, im in grade 10 advance math so this is fairly easy for me, but if you dont believe me, you could put the lines on a graph.
-
so sub pionts into a or c until it equals
4=-(-1)+4
4=5 nope
so obviously c
4=-(-1)+3
4=4 yes
c
4=-(-1)+4
4=5 nope
so obviously c
4=-(-1)+3
4=4 yes
c
-
yes it has to be c because y=-1+3 because your y coefficient is 4 in your point and the 3 would be your y intercept as the equation is set forth
-
Actually it's A so your right.
4=-1+4 well thats to get you started.
4=-1+4 well thats to get you started.

Its a- because of the (...,4)
