(-5x^-2 y)(-2x^-2 y^2)?
will you help me (show your work so I can understand step-by-step) I understand how to distribute and whatnot. My problem is simplifying from there.

When you multiply exponents of the same base, you add the powers together. For example, x^2 * x^3 = x^(2+3) = x^5. When you have a negative power, you move it from the numerator to the denominator (or the other way around) to make the power positive.
(-5x^-2 y)(-2x^-2 y^2) = 10x^-4y^3 = 10y^3/x^4
(-5x^-2 y)(-2x^-2 y^2) = 10x^-4y^3 = 10y^3/x^4

(-5x⁻²y)(-2x⁻²y²) = 10x⁻²⁺⁻²y¹⁺²
= 10x⁻⁴y³
= 10x⁻⁴y³
