How do you work this problem? -17w+40=8w^2+5w
-
first i put all the w's on the same side by adding 17w to 5w
so 8w²+22w=40 ( i switched the sides around, personal preference)
then subtracted 40
8w²+22w-40=0
then i used the quadratic formula
-b (+ or -) the square root of b²-4(a)(c)
all over 2a
so -22(+ or -) the square root of 22² - 4(8)(-40) all /2(8)
so -22(+ or -) sq root of 484 + 1280 all /16
484+1280=1760
square root of 1760 = 42
so take -22+42= 20
divide: 20/16 = 5/4
also
-22-42= -64
divide: -64/16 = -4
w= 5/4 or 1.25
&
w= -4
so 8w²+22w=40 ( i switched the sides around, personal preference)
then subtracted 40
8w²+22w-40=0
then i used the quadratic formula
-b (+ or -) the square root of b²-4(a)(c)

w= 5/4 or 1.25
&
w= -4
-
w = -4 or w = 5/4

Can someone please help me?
How do you work this problem?
-17w+40=8w^2+5w
0=8w²+22w-40
0=4w²+11w-20
0=(4w-5)(w+4)
w=-4
w=5/4
How do you work this problem?
-17w+40=8w^2+5w
0=8w²+22w-40
0=4w²+11w-20
0=(4w-5)(w+4)
w=-4
w=5/4
-
-17w+40=8w^2+5w
8w^2 + 22w - 40
2(4w^2 + 11w -20)
4w^2 + 11w -20
w(4w + 11) = 20
1. w = 20
2. 4w = -11
w = -11/4
8w^2 + 22w - 40
2(4w^2 + 11w -20)
4w^2 + 11w -20
w(4w + 11) = 20
1. w = 20
2. 4w = -11
w = -11/4
