You may need some parentheses. Do you mean (x/x) - 3 as the order of operations would dictate or do you mean x/(x-3) as it may have been written in a vertical form?

(x/x) - 3 has no vertical asymptote.

x/(x-3) has vertical asymptote x = 3.

-
find the limf(x) and if it is +,-oo then x=3 is the vertical asymptote
x->3
(there is only one vertical asymptote)
