5x+3y= -34
x+9y=10
I've tried solving it by elimination and substitution, but I can't get it. Can someone explain?

change the second equation to x=10 - 9y
then plug that into the first equation so it looks like this
5(10-9y) + 3y = -34
multiply it out
50 - 45y + 3y = -34
then add and subtract everything
-42y = - 84
divide by -42
y = 2
then plug the y = 2 into either of the original equations
x + 9(2) = 10
subtract 18 from both sides then you get
x = -8
the ordered pair is
(-8,2) or x = -8 and y = 2
then plug that into the first equation so it looks like this
5(10-9y) + 3y = -34
multiply it out
50 - 45y + 3y = -34
then add and subtract everything
-42y = - 84

y = 2
then plug the y = 2 into either of the original equations
x + 9(2) = 10

x = -8
the ordered pair is
(-8,2) or x = -8 and y = 2
