Please make it brief.
Explain the formation and what they do.
An example would be nice too.

A geyser is a thermal spring which typically occurs in geologically active areas. These areas are often the caldera of dormant super volcanoes where a large magma pool is very close to the surface. Water seeping through cracks in the earth's crust can come into contact with the magma which turns it to superheated steam. It rises back to the surface and erupts as a column of water and steam. Geysers are periodic and fill and erupt at regular intervals. The best known is "Old Faithful" in Yellowstone park in the western USA.
