What advantages do LED bulbs have over other types of bulbs such as fluorescent?
In terms of reliability/feasibility, cost savings, maintenance etc
please explain in detail.
thank you!

Jim Moor say: There's hundreds of reasons...
no mercury
safer if broken
safer in space in confined compartments
safer in explosive environments
much easier to weatherseal such as waterproof
less sensitive to extreme pressures without failure
less environment waste
solid state vs glass
more vibration resistant
size, miniturization
longer life
dimmable - much easier than dimming CFL
dimming can be much better controled
dimming can go to a lower setting
dimming can be pure white then dimming to soft candlelight.
variable colors, not just locked to one color
vast flexibility in design elements, rows, circles, etc.
no ballast needed
instantaneous start vs CFL start delay
cold weather has much less effect
uses less energy
can be directly controlled by electronic circuitry
better CRI color accuracy across the entire visible spectrum
LED cycling to so fast you can use to transmit computer data
LEDs can 'lase' if required
Brighter per area or volume than CFL
should I go on????

roger say: Cheaper
last longer
stay white when dimmed
you can get them in any color (even programmable color)
Use less electricity

Philomel say: LED's can be strobed at very high frequencies so the wattage is controllable. They have very long lifetimes up to 20 years. They come in different colors so they can be spectraly tuned to the requirement. They are very light and small for potrable applications. They are relatively cheap over long periods of use. they have very high reliability.

Vaman say: Energy consumption is very low. Most of the current in other devices is spent in heat not light. LED gives only light not heat.

Kenny say: Better true color, no ballast so more instant turn on and less need for warm up , use a little less wattage, no mercury gas, last a little longer (10,000 hours) , smaller element so they can do more in design, ie a 100w equivalent on a fluor is huge, a led can be the same as a regular A19 bulb

JosephV say: LED bulbs have low carbon footprint, use less energy, are small and bright, and have a long life of 15 years when used with good LED drive circuits, thus reducing its cost and increasing its efficiency. Take a hall lit with 10 LED bulbs, each 3.3 volts 1000 mA and 3 watt rating. These are regulated by a current controlled LED drive that does not allow the current to exceed 950 mA at any time. This ensures that the LED light glows bright and does not get damaged. LED lights have many colors and are beautiful when used for lighting and for decor.

Old Man Dirt say: Fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. Which is a hazardous material because it is toxic.

Ron say: They make more money for the merchants.

say: Long life
Lower energy consumption
