Do people live in Antarctica? If yes, how do they survive? What do they eat and drink?

answers:
JASON say: There are various scientific bases there, I'm not sure if they're occupied all year long. The British one is currently empty as an ice shelf is threatening to break off. It was moved away from the coast but they're not sure where it will break off from, so safer to evacuate.
-
MajorArmedMan say: No, the only people in Antarctica are scientists from all around the world. And they are supplied by their respective countries' planes bringing food to the continent.
-
Richard D say: Survival in Antarctica is strictly based on outside help. They flew in an entire self contained camp. There is really no survival on the "land" itself. By now they probably have a Starbucks.
-
say: They have winter clothes and places to eat as we do.
-
Bubba Gubbins say: There are no native Antarcticans. Only a few immigrants.
-
Jim2 say: No. Only scientists and tourists.I'm would imagine they melt ice for water and eat canned and dried food, peanut butter, beans, etc.
-
EmothicVonHellsing say: Yes, mainly researchers. They recive supplies to survive, mainly by aircraft in the very short summer period where the weather ins't as bad.
-
EdWinter say: 1) Yes, for a while, anyway. NOT permanently.
2) The same way you do. Doh.
3) The same things you do. Doh.

Geez...this is one of the worst so far this month, isn't it, Sports Fans!?! Sad.

Dze say: They probably eat penguins and lemon colored snow cones ...
-
Gérard_Depardieu! say: Yes, they eat food.
-
michinoku2001 say: They eat frozen food. Seriously, they probably do get tired of powdered milk! I suppose the camp cooks have to know what they are doing to keep their crews happy with limited supplies of fresh food. When you go deep into canned food you can get some tasty stuff like canned asparagus. These days folks forget how many things tasty things do come in a can! For example you get some canned crab, and some cheese and some macaroni. Crab mac and cheese done right goes down well. It doesn't have to be all gourmet all the time, variety is the key. **** on a raft is fine sometimes, just not everyday.

A good galley keeps a happy ship/barracks/work camp. There's no way you want to be serving the same thing everyday! One thing a supply officer would be doing is working with the cook to source things like really choice frozen pizza and tasty coffee.

Susie say: In good weather they have supply planes come in and out and they eat much like you and I, unless the planes can’t get down there and then they use emergency rations.
