What happens if everyone in the world jumped at the same time?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
aladdinwa say: Absolutely nothing would happen.

All of the living human beings on earth, if standing shoulder-to-shoulder and back-to-front could fit in a square only 25 miles on each side.

Absolutely nothing would happen.
-
say: Let's be realistic. You would be hard pressed to get those under one year to jump at all.
-
MARK say: The only thing that would happen is something extremely rare: The entire human population co-operated in a single act.
-
Gordon B say: everyone expends a few calories
-
Paula say: A couple of seconds later everyone in the world would land.
That would quite a feet.
-
Murzy say: it might shift the axis slightly
-
qjvme say: qaakqnoy
-
pxxhr say: byuiqpik
-
zeno say: Nothing as the ground absorbs the impact
Like a soft mattress. Boing boing boing ...
No impact beyond a few feet.
-
ANDRE L say: Nothing. The force of all seven billion people jumping in unison, if such a thing were possible, and it's not, would be so minimal that it would not be noticable. Because the Earth masses so very much more than all humans combined.
-
say: It would spread harmony among all races of people.
-
Tiburon say: earth quake
-
Colleen say: First, people don't have enough mass for it to matter, not even all of the people in the world, not compared to the earth.
Second, momentum is conserved. Energy is conserved. So if everyone jumped (on the same side of the earth), we'd be pushing the earth away from us as we jumped, and then once we reached the peak of our jump, the gravitational force between us and the earth would start pulling us back in, and when we land, we'd be right back where we started!
-
Enguerarrard say: A new record for silliness would be set.
-
az_lender say: Mass of earth = 6 x 10^24 kg.
Mass of humanity = no more than 6 x 10^11 kg.
Negligible.
-
Acetek say: Nothing
-
Rick B say: nothing.
-
nwndf say: mceyvxru
