Acid precipitation forms by different processes. It depends on which acid is the end result. There are three common ones:

Carbonic Acid - created by carbon dioxide being absorbed into water droplets

Nitric Acid - nitrous oxide being absorbed by raindrops

Sulfuric Acid - sulfur dioxide being absorbed by raindrops
