What do you think of the Gaia hypothesis

In my opinion, Gaia has some good principles but takes them too far.There are some good lessons to be learned in there about environmental protection, though - how seemingly unconnected actions that we take can have a big effect.-I think its fascinating. What if it turns out to be true and all that human beings are is sometimes cancer-inducing parasites?......

I like the idea of everything being linked, and the Earth being a whole 'organism' - but I think it is a little far-fetched. In my opinion, Gaia has some good principles but takes them too far.
