What metal would I need to use to build a crown? I want to gold plate it after, so what would be a good metal to do craft it with? Or can I have it made entirely in gold?

Oh and I'm talking about a Kings crown. Not exactly like the one below but you get what I mean.

Not sure where the first answer came from (who is "they"?). Magnets stick to iron, steel, nickel and cobalt, all metals that are not typically the first choice for gold jewelry.

It is quite easy to fabricate copper and copper takes gold electroplating very nicely. Same is true for sterling or coin silver. Of course, if money is no object, why use gold plating? Make it out of pure gold (24 carat) which is going to be relatively soft or a standard gold jewelry alloy which will be stronger and harder.

They say any metal that a magnet will stick to, if you use an electronic pulse plater, you can use any metal you want, depends on how heavy you will want it to though

-
copper just hi-quality copper most effective for electroplating with gold
