Using the dilution formula, compute for the volume of HCl stock solution that is needed in order to prepare 500 ml of 0.1 N solution.
i tried to do it by myself, but i just cant understand.
can you show me step by step? thanks in advance!

All these dilution problems are easily solved using the dilution equation:
C1V1 = C2V2
But it is not possible to apply this equation to your problem because you have not provided the concentration ( normality) of the stock solution. If you cannot solve this yourself by using the equation, submit the missing data and it will be done for you.
Without the concentration of the stock solution no answer is possible.
Edit later:
OK - now we can proceed
You want the volume of 12.0N stock solution required:
Substitute into the equation: You want to solve for V1 - the volume of 12N HCl solution required:
C1V1 = C2V2
12*V1 = 0.1*500
V1 = 50/12
V1 = 4.1667
That is the answer according to the formula. But this is not practical. The best you could measure out in a laboratory is 4.2mL - but some would point out that in terms of significant figures, the answer should be 4mL
At your apparent level of study , I would submit the answer 4.2mL
