I planted a sunflower seed a week ago, its now like 5-6 cm ye they grow pretty fast. It looks like a thin stem with some leaves on it but the thing is it keeps on tipping over, I thought sunflowers only needed support when they are fully grown with the large flower head. Is this normal?

Yeah, sometimes seedlings are like that at first but if you just leave it to it it will learn to stand up properly. (Just like children).
