my friend and I are in an arguement of sorts. He says that bacteria phages lyse bacteria but viruses that infect eukaryotic cells do not. He said viruses that infect eukaryotic cells can kill the cell via host mediated apoptosis, but they don't actively lyse the cell. I say that viruses CAN actively lyse eukaryotic cells. Who is right?

You are right, viruses CAN kill via apoptosis, but they can also kill via lyse.
