Briefly explain what would happen if an ecosystem changed in some way that threatens a population so that it has difficulty surviving to reproduce, and that population isn't preadapted to that change. Why can't the population just get new mutations at that point? (I dont really understand this..)

mutations never occur in a population, they can only happen to individuals and get passed on to their offspring. Mutations are also random so u cant just make a mutation. It is all luck
