Evolution. Sugary and fatty foods, while unhealthy, are full of energy and extremely easy to digest compared to proteins or fiber-heavy carbohydrates. Your body doesn't want to put any more effort into things than it has to.

You need sugar. Historically, it's evolutionarily advantageous for humans to crave/like the taste of something they metabolically need.
The catch is that you just don't need nearly as much as is pumped into just about every food you buy in modern grocery stores/restaurants. Evolution is just a really slow mechanism and hasn't caught up.
