just look straight up at it, that's my policy, i've viewed every other elipse just fine (falls into a manhole)

You know if someone does that and goes blind or partly blind and they can get a lawyer to find out who you are, you could be sued for their eye damage.

I have always heard that you shouldn't look at eclipses, and I've always wanted to see one, but never just "looked" at one for fear of being almost immediately blinded. It sounds stupid on the surface, but I didn't want to take any chances. Now they're just saying to look at it, just like that.

They always said it was the "corona" or halo of light around the sun that became much brighter if the moon blocked the actual sun. That doesn't even make sense. The sun, itself, is VERY bright, and I've looked at that without permanent damage. I see no reason to avoid looking at eclipses.
