Why is Humanity Anti-Optimistic When it Comes to Space Travel

And that has a vacuum at its surface. Mars and more distant planets have average surface temperatures that are way below zero Celsius. The distances are vast, so travel time is very long. Even Mars requires a 12 month duration to go there and back. But the real killer of optimism is the distances to our stellar neighbors.......
Why haven't people who work on sending people to space and expanding humanity's reach in space? What is up with the huge stall in space exploration? It is depressing to see how slow and slugish they work for so called "Geniuses". If they were smart wouldn't they understand that people will lose all interest in ever funding it if there are no significant signs of progress? What the heck is going on at NASA and the other space agencies that has brought human space exploration to a horrible halt?

I think there is 3 main reasons:
1) cost
It is very expensive to send people into space.

2) destination
There is no habitable destination to go to.
The most hospitable place (other than this earth) in this solar system is the Moon. And that has a vacuum at its surface. Mars and more distant planets have average surface temperatures that are way below zero Celsius.

3) distance
The distances are vast, so travel time is very long. Even Mars requires a 12 month duration to go there and back.
But the real killer of optimism is the distances to our stellar neighbors. We simply can't even send an unmanned probe to our near neighbors because travel time will be thousands of years. A new type of machine is going to be needed, that maintains itself in working order for thousands of years. We completely lack this technology.

And it really is very discouraging. It is not so much pessimism as it is realism.

It takes lots of time to develop space travel technology. I just doesn't move as fast as science fiction.

One very major problem with space travel is that there's no way to recover costs yet. We have no 'job' out there. This is not to say that we never will, but right now, all space travel loses money.

-
Y need to realize that for humans, money comes before everything.
Ordinary people simply don't see much point in exploring space.

-
Well this should make you very optimistic and I believe this joint project is the first step in becoming a space faring race.
