Their reputation so far is absolutely lousy. It's discouraging just to realize that they have been in business for over fifty years and haven't built a base yet. Right now NASA can't even duplicate the achievements of the 70s, when computers still had tubes and the primary I/O was Teletype.

People who say these things, obviously have no idea what they are talking about because they do not keep up with current NASA missions.

probably 100 years or more or never. i think nasa has more important things to do than colonize mars for scientific research. nasa needs to find other habitable planets for humans to move to. earth is getting overpopulated, and eventually, resources are going to run out. and in a few billion years, the sun is going to become a black hole and swallow everything in its path. who knows how long it's going to take to find another planet and find a method to transport humans to the new planet.

It's impossible to say for sure, but given the current state of the US government it won't be for a while and Obama hasn't helped at all, so, hopefully the next president has a good financial plan for the future.

Not really. Colonizing Mars isn't even viable right now as we haven't even sent a manned mission yet, let alone construct interstellar space-craft capable of traversing the galaxy to planets which we're not sure are capable of supporting human life, that definitely won't happen for a while at least 500 to 1,000 years or longer. We have to take smaller steps before we make greater strides.
