Why was the US the only country to go the moon.

I made myself look like an idiot, when some person who doesn't really know that much of science or the its history said. That the US was the only country to have human beings land on the lunar surface. I was certain it was false considering the huge "race to the moon" where all countries fought to develop technolgy capable of getting to the moon first. US won of course which I'm sure other countries were not very far behind. Did they just cancel all their missions after US made landing?

Yes they did. Putting a man on the moon was a massive national undertaking. There were really only 2 players the US and the Soviets. The US won obviously but while the Soviets were on their heels, their space program was bankrupting them. The US was the only nation on Earth that could financially manage it. So the Soviet program was abandoned after the US won the space race because it was already crippling them, they weren't going to carry on just for the sake of crossing the finish line.

The so called "Space Race" and the war in Vietnam were not holistic. In the days from 1969 until the ended of the manned flights to the moon, the United States was not as limited as it is today. We could fight a war and do the research and development required to land on the moon. And, no. It the space race was not considered an extension of the hot or colds wars raging at that time. The moon flights were ultimately discontinued because there was nothing to gain from flying to a big rock and sticking yet another flag on it. Continuing to do the same thing repeatedly was just bad business. Even NASA knew that. They had a certain amount of funding and chose to use that money in something more productive.

There were only TWO countries in the Space Race -- The United States, and Soviet Russia. NO tother country had space flight capability at that time.
