Maybe because Im left handed?Report Abuse-It may be that the brain is divided into two lobes - left anf right, and that these lobes are responsible for different functions. Just something I have noticed.

The english writing system is read from left to right, people are accustomed to starting on the left, and so they begin the base of their solar system where the naturally occurring "beginning" of their paper is.

I don't. Maybe because I'm left handed?

It may be that the brain is divided into two lobes - left anf right, and that these lobes are responsible for different functions. Moreover the left lobe controls the right side of th body while the right lobe controls the left side,. It may be that the right brain recognises the sun as a archetypical symbol, for example as recognising the male aspect - similar to the Moon and its reference to the female aspect - and subconsciously places it on the left... That's as far as I can take it.
I have wondered also that in a public place where there is a fountain - have you ever noticed that people tend to walk around the fountain in a counter-clockwise fashion so that it is on their left side ? (Unless of course the situation demands otherwise).

When you draw a moving object, the tendency is to draw it off-centre.

Drawing the object moving off the picture talks of departure. Drawing it moving into the picture means arrival - the object will be on the scene for a while.

For most people (the bulk of human population lives north of the equator) the Sun moves from left to right. If you draw the Sun on the left, it is there for a while, promising many hours of light. If you draw it on the right, it is about to leave, announcing the approach of darkness.

Let's call this (what is above) my hypothesis ( = an idea based on observation and some knowledge of nature).

We can turn it into a theory by devising a test: For kids living in southern latitudes (South Africa, Argentina, Chile...), the same implication should get them - or most of them - to draw the Sun on the right, as the Sun moves from right to left when viewed from the southern hemisphere.
