Horned Toad say: Cow's milk is very similar in chemical composition as human milk. Very similar in fat content at 4%. Unless the milk is contaminated by germs and unless one is lactose intolerant, drinking cow's milk will not hurt us.
-
Venus 1485AD say: It helps people who aren't lactose intolerant. We can drink any other animal's milk. Fake plant milks are useless though.
-
Elaine M say: We can digest other animal's milk (camel, yak, horse, goat, etc.) as youngsters, but most adults have digestive systems that have a hard time handling it.
In cultures where the mother may die in childbirth, I can see the remaining parent/family looking to another milk producing creature to help keep the baby alive.
The different milks have different sugar and fat contents. Goat milk is the most easily digested by adults.

MARK say: There are arguments for and against adults consuming milk, a food for infants, and whether we humans should consume the milk of another mammal. In some cultures milk and other dairy products are not eaten, e.g. in Chinese culture.
For the most part consuming cows' milk and products made from it are not harmful per se. Some people have problems in digesting lactose, the sugar in milk, and should avoid dairy. Also, because it is a source of saturated fats people should be careful how much they eat.

busterwasmycat say: It is obvious from very long years of practice that the benefits outweigh the "harm". Is eating flesh of a chicken bad because that muscle mass was intended for the chicken not us?
-
Billy say: It isn't "meant" for a calf. A cow's teat doesn't produce milk with any kind of intent.
Life subsists on life. Everything we eat comes from something else living, another species of living thing. Unless there's some kind of allergy to one or the other, drinking a cow's milk is really no different than eating the cow. If cow's milk is what cow's grow from, then if milk is toxic, so would beef be.
