I live in Toronto, which is not where centipedes usually are found so I doubt it can be a centipede. Also, is this thing harmful? Is it poisonous and can it kill?

That's just a house centipede. They do have a very mildly poisonous venom, but to all but the allergic or those with compromised immune systems, the creatures are harmless.

Yep. That's a house centipede. Some people like to say that they are harmless, but their bite/sting is actually very painful, though not life-threatening. Some people say it is about twice the intensity of a wasp sting, and can cause localized swelling.
The problem with these things is not so much the bite/sting, because this only happens when you try to handle them or press down on them. What bothers me is their speed and appearance. They can grow to the size of your pinkie finger, but their legs make them look even bigger. They are good vertical climbers, and unnervingly fast. They will often try to crawl across your ceiling, only to loose their grip and fall straight down. Once you spot a big one zipping up your bedroom wall, its tough to get any sleep afterwards.
On a positive note, one or two centipedes will hunt and kill all of the spiders in your home, even the dangerous ones like black widow and brown recluse. They also eat cockroaches, but not enough to cure an infestation. But man, I get chills just looking at that picture and remembering how fast they can move. Try not to let them into your home if they are disturbing to you. Some insecticides will work if applied to your doorways.

There ya go :3 : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutigera_c…
They're commonly known as house centipedes, explaining the door step thing. They also live in cool, damp places, so Toronto might be a good place at around this time.
