Sounds a stupid question because there world is so savage and brutal but if they did not destroy each other everyday there would be no vegetation due to the population as a result no vegetation nothing to live and survive. So they must have a natural set will to cull there population in order to maintain equality with nature and preserve there world a bit like people wanting to preserve the rain forest therefore we must assume they do posses a will to think and act. Many say insects do not posses the will to think but yet in recent years though they are not insects scientists have begun to notice never before known remarkable thinking ability in Arachnoid's and i believe the same thinking ability exists with insects that they have there own set politics that involves murder by genocide in order to preserve them and there own habitat what do you think.

Good question. The social species do have rules they set up to maintain social order. This is known as eusociality and IIRC is found in all termites and many antss as well as some other species. Basically they have a class system that an individual is born into, and if one tries to stray from that system they are punished by others. An experiment looking at paper wasps showed that their facial markings represented their status. Experimenters modified the markings on some wasps so they appeared to be of higher status. When they were identified the other wasps beat the crap out of them (http://www.scientificamerican.com/articl… ). So their systems are very rudimentary but that is all they need to manage their societies effectively.
As for culling the population, they may do that when it is beneficial ie if there is a disease in the colony. But social animals (like humans) actually need each other to work together in order to benefit. It may not seem like humans work together, but look at any city and you see the evidence of it in the systems which operate like electricity, sewage, food production etc.
