Although after reading it, you have to consider that they are the bottom of most food chains and removing that could potentially still be a problem. They are food for spiders, bats, birds, and other insects, and fish. Yet, the article is a good one explaining ecology better than I think I can and it shows you an up to date study on what would happen if we were to get rid of them.

You can also build bat boxes if you live in a wooded area. The boxes will draw in bats (duh) and the bats will feed off of the mosquitos and other pests in the area.
