If you're traveling at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on, what happens

you and the light coming from the headlights would appear to be sandwiched, or squashed together and moving at the speed of light. This might seem unreasonable, since the car is moving at the speed of light and the light from the headlights is also moving at the speed of light with respect to the car, you would expect that it would move at twice the speed of light. That is in fact not the case.......
For the sake of the explanation, let's (falsely) assume that you could indeed travel at the speed of light in a car. This was in fact one of Einstein's thought experiments that lead him to the theory of relativity. The answer is that you would see the headlights operating normally. You would see light leaving them and moving forward at the speed of light (with respect to your car).

A stationary observer, however, would see a totally different picture. To him, the car, you and the light coming from the headlights would appear to be "sandwiched", or "squashed" together and moving at the speed of light.

This might seem unreasonable, since the car is moving at the speed of light and the light from the headlights is also moving at the speed of light with respect to the car, you would expect that it would move at twice the speed of light. That is in fact not the case. In special relativity, velocities don't simply add. The formula is shown here:

If you use that formula and plug in c for both u and v, you'll find that the total velocity is still c, not 2c.

Simple answer - you couldn't turn them on. If you are traveling at the speed of light then that means so is the headlight switch. The act of moving your hand forward and turning a dial would mean you are turning the dial at a speed slightly faster than the speed of light which is impossible according to Einstein. Even moving your hand forward means it needs to move faster than the speed of light.Which you wouldn't be able to do!

Come to think of it, your brain also wouldn't be able to send a thought to your arm's muscle to move since that means the thought would have to travel through the nerve at faster than light speed!

First we ask the question, "has anyone ever traveled at the speed of light?" and here is the answer
