What is life like for a scientist?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
JYAG say: Probably adventurous and full of mysteries
-
oikoσ say: Pretty much like life for everyone else, except for the science. I once heard that, if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. I came pretty close.
-
marzmargs12 say: Working in the Polar Regions for three months conducting ice tests.
-
Adullah M say: It is depend on which kind of Scientists . But for sure life can not originate from non-life form, since how comes the non-life form can give life that it did not posses to another non-life form then. Since it is against reason logic and intellect which is the backbone of science.
-
Jeffrey K say: 99% of his time: looking for jobs, writing for grant money, working as an intern (unpaid), working as an adjunct professor (barely paid), going to conferences, begging for tenure.

1% of his time: doing science
-
Ronald 7 say: Busy but exciting
-
Starrysky say: Scrambling for grants, stipends, book deals, conference speaking fees, and of course, tenure.
-
hoarseman say: It begins --then after a lot of learning and some thinking -- it ends
-
az_lender say: The payoff is deferred, as it would be for a medical doctor -- it is necessary to spend a number of years in postgraduate training, and then in relatively low-paying positions, before one can claim the rewards of the profession. On the other hand, an engineer who starts work immediately after college might evolve into an applied scientist (researcher) in middle age, if he were so inclined -- and hence, not experience being poor in his twenties.
-
Robin say: lots os hard work for little pay
-
Acetek say: an endless thirst for knowledge
-
Kevin7 say: It is tough
-
Brilliant "Skippy" Answer say: AS A SCIENTIST:

I can only speak for myself, so Its the chemical composition of a particular living system or biological substance: viral biochemistry that may include several attributes including but not exclusive: metabolism, homeostasis, reproduction, response, evolution and growth.

Great question!

busterwasmycat say: Like life for everyone else, really, although we tend to be more observant and curious. I have asked questions and gotten "who cares" as an answer, when it is pretty obvious from the very asking that I care, or I would not have asked (which is generally how I reply to "who cares"; I care or I would not have asked). Work can be quite different depending on the science and what part of it the person is doing. We do stuff, look at stuff, make measurements and observations, and write it into reports with interpretations of what we think is the reason why we saw what we did see. Usually. The observation/measurement and interpretation or prediction parts can be wildly variable for the individual.
-
Davros say: Much like the life of most academics. Far too much bloody work for too little pay (except for the heads of department who tend be rolling in it).

Unless you are exceptionally lucky and land yourself a book deal or tv show of course, then you can live it up a little.
-
Sukrit say: Really stressful except the genius ones.
