The "greenhouse" effect is actually a misnomer. What keeps the Earth warm isn't the same as how a greenhouse works. A greenhouse works by trapping heated air. On Earth there is nothing to trap hot air. Electromagnetic energy from the sun is transmitted through the atmosphere, hits surface, is absorbed and warms the surface. The energy radiates back into space except for some which is absorbed by compounds in the atmosphere and re-radiated. Some of the re-radiated energy is directed back toward the surface, helping to warm it. Water vapor is the most prevalent re-radiator in the atmosphere, followed by some other gases including methane and carbon dioxide. But when there are too many of these re-radiating molecules in the atmosphere, the surface temperatures rise, with potentially catastrophic results.
Nonetheless, the answer you are looking for is "B".
As for Edmonton and Calgary, Edmonton is farther north. Keep on going north and there won't be any daylight. Earth has seasons and variable amounts of sunlight over a 24 hour period because of the average 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth's axis to the plane of the ecliptic.

Donnie Porko say: Space is cold, really cold. It’s about 3 degrees Kelvin (absolute 0 is 0 degrees kelvin). The greenhouse effect makes earth warm enough to be habitable.
Calgary has more daylight because of the tilt of the earth. If earth is perpendicular then cities that lies in the same longitude will have the same hours of daylight, but since earth is tilted, cities further north gets few daylight while cities further south gets more daylight.

Recreate the picture with a globe and flashlight (sun), rotate the globe and notice how cities further north gets darkness sooner than cities further south.

az_lender say: (B) Earth would be too cold without the natural greenhouse effect.
Edmonton is further north than Calgary, so experiences shorter days than Calgary in winter (and longer days than Calgary in summer).
