Expand and simplify 2(3x-2) +4(x+5)

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-05-12] [Hit: ]
2 times -2 = -4. 4 times x = 4x.(6x + 4x = 10x.10x+16 is the answer.......
Thank you. p.s can level one users give points to answering question,if so how?

-
2(3x-2) + 4(x+5)
2(3x) + 2(-2) + 4(x) + 4(5)
6x + -4 + 4x + 20
10x + 16

EDIT: If you want it factored, 2(5x+8) is the same thing.

-
2(3x-2) is expanded into 6x - 4 because all the things contained in the brackets should be multiplied by what is outside of these brackets, same goes for 4(x+5) - the result is 4x + 20 now you only need to add these one to another.

So... 6x - 4 + 4x + 20 = 10x + 16
Done!

-
2(3x-2)+4(x+5)
6x-4 + 4x+20
(3x times 2 = 6x. 2 times -2 = -4. 4 times x = 4x. 4 times 5 = 20)
10x + 16
(6x + 4x = 10x. 20 - 4 = 16)

-
= 6x-4 + 4x + 20
=10x +16
=2 (5x + 8)

-
2(3x-2) + 4(x+5)
(6x-4) + (4x+20)

10x+16 is the answer.
