A balloon filled with helium gas occupies 2.50 L at 25 degrees Celsius and 1.00 atm. When released it rises to an altitude where the temperature is 20 degrees Celsius and the pressure is 0.20 atm. Find the new volume of the balloon in L.

Use the general gas law: p1V1/T1 = p2V2/T2
T must be in Kelvins
T1 = 25 + 273 = 298 K; p1 = 1.00 atm; V1 = 2.50 L
T2 = 20 + 273 = 293 K; p2 = 0.20 atm; V2 = ???
V2 = V1(p1/p2)(T2/T1) = 2.50 L(1.00 atm/0.20 atm)(293 K/298 K) = 12.3 L
