How do astronauts not run into stars while in space

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-03-16] [Hit: ]
It happens that the number of AU in a light year is nearly equal to the number of inches in a mile.Imagine the Earth just one inch from the sun. At this scale the sun is less than 1/100 inch wide, just a speck of dust, and the entire solar system would fit within a mans outstretched arms. The nearest star is another speck of dust FOUR MILES AWAY!......

In other words, although the universe is full of stars (perhaps somewhere around 10 to the power 23 of them(, they are unimaginably far away.

The distance from Earth to Sun is called the Astronomic Unit, AU. It happens that the number of AU in a light year is nearly equal to the number of inches in a mile.

Imagine the Earth just one inch from the sun. At this scale the sun is less than 1/100 inch wide, just a speck of dust, and the entire solar system would fit within a man's outstretched arms. The nearest star is another speck of dust FOUR MILES AWAY!

This is because.........
The nearest star is the sun(150 million km if I remember rightly may be billion also!). The next one is 4 light yrs. away.
Also, they are many times bigger than the earth(and the astronauts).
Also, they are made of gas.
Also, they are hot!(pun unintended) Any (unlucky) astronaut running into them would be vaporized (unless you wear a suit resistant to 6000 C)

I believe there are enough reasons to convince U.
But, your question was good! :-)

-
because the nearest star Alpha Centauri is just 200 Light Year away, and a light Year is the time it take for a speeding light wave to travel from this point to another point somewhere in one year. now do you understand why any astro guys will never bump in any star outside earth,

-
the nearest star besides our sun, is 4.2 light years away. That is extremely far away, leaving plenty of room for activities for astronauts in space.

-
Stars move out of the way because the astronauts are too bauss to move around them. ;)

That OR

They do loop-de-loops around all the stars possible =) NOW....I wanna go loop-de-looping around a star, Wanna come? Haha.

-
there too far away and actually when you see a star, you're seeing an explosion that happened hundreds of millions years ago, it simply takes a long time for the light of one of those explosions to reach us

-
Astronauts have only been to the moon which is only a few thousand miles away.

Stars are Billions of miles away.

-
The same way that when you go out walking at night that you don't accidentally bump your head on the Moon!
The astronauts duck their heads out of the way!

-
Lol. Seriously?

-
Yes. But there's only ONE star within our solar system, and the furthest astronauts have gone is our Moon.

-
They steer round them.
