Is it absolutely mandated I get an exemplary grade in an AP course to get into NYU

What we learn in vocabulary is less commonly used words where another word I know would work just as fine. You often find them in bestselling novels. For example, my teachers want me to use bestow when provide will work just fine. They say they want me to know that word because the College Board would much rather youd use bestow rather than provide on the writing section of the SAT. The students in honors classes learn much more useful and interesting words in my perspective,......

Moving on to the other most important topic for high school students, you might have noticed that I write well. But because I always preferred nonfiction over fiction novels, it was straight to the bottom of the charts. Special ed classes NEVER satisfy the prerequisite for any honors or AP class at my high school. What we learn in vocabulary is less commonly used words where another word I know would work just as fine. You often find them in bestselling novels. For example, my teachers want me to use "bestow" when "provide" will work just fine. They say they want me to know that word because the College Board would much rather you'd use "bestow" rather than "provide" on the writing section of the SAT. The students in honors classes learn much more useful and interesting words in my perspective, and probably many others. Why? Because they're too good for the basic ones. Examples include complacent, laudable, indiscernible and indiscreet.

I am worried that even though it is within my strong belief that I am capable of being in a class that teaches you more than just the minimum required for the core curriculum, in the world of college admissions, the transcript always wins. Just like if a car and jaywalker hit each other, the car always wins.

I didn't know what an honors or AP class is until this year. I also learned this year that once the guidance office determines what degree of course rigor is appropriate for you, nothing you can explain or show enthusiasm for will do anything to convince your counselor you deserve to be in an AP or honors course. Only long term progress will help.

I have had enough of the school perceiving me as a lowlife who doesn't appreciate the education my parents pay property taxes for! Special education classes might sound like they must be easier than a regularly instructed class on first thought, but when you actually experience it yourself, you find out it's not! There are kids who fight the teachers and are resistant to directions on an almost daily basis, the pace is the slowest and least rigorous in the whole school, and there's only about 6 or 7 kids in the whole classroom!

My aspirations include working in a well-regarded innovative business such as General Electric, Google or Facebook and reside in an affluent, walkable NYC suburb. I refuse to settle for anything less prosperous!

You do write and express yourself quite well.

Bypass the middlewoman and go directly to NYU. Pick a major field (or three ..:-)) and try to get to talk with some of the instructors/professors there.

You have a couple of years before applying: get going now!
