Next year she will be 1 year more than twice as old as he will be.Right now,Next year,This year, she is seven years older than Ben, and next year (hence the + 1) she will be twice ( x 2) Bens age plus one more ( + 2 because its also next year too).......
I have been having hard time to solve this! Please help? :)

Problem:
Gabriella is 7 years older than Ben. Next year she will be 1 year more than twice as old as he will be.

Let=
G = Gabriella's age
B = Ben's age

-
g = 7 + b

g + 1 = 1 + 2 * (b + 1)
g + 1 = 1 + 2b + 2
g = 2b + 2

g = 7 + b
g = 2b + 2

7 + b = 2b + 2
7 - 2 = 2b - b
5 = b

g = 7 + b
g = 7 + 5
g = 12

Right now, she's 12 and he's 5
Next year, she'll be 13 and he'll be 6

-
G = B + 7
G + 1 = 2 x B + 2

This year, she is seven years older than Ben, and next year (hence the + 1) she will be twice ( x 2) Ben's age plus one more ( + 2 because it's also next year too).
See if that works :)

-
PRESENT AGE
-----------------------
Let the ages be G & B

G = B + 7

NEXT YEAR
---------------------

G+1 = 2 ( B + 1 )+ 1

B +8 = 2 B + 3

B = 5
G = 12

-
G=B+7
G+1 = 2(B+1)+1
G = 2B+2
0 = B - 5
B = 5 years
G = 12 years
