It was constructed in the 1950's .
Currently it is the seat of government and the president resides there.

One Monday, after a British Sunday Newspaper had run an article on Brasilia, our Headmistress asked us this question. She obviously subscribed to different newspaper, because she was adamant that it was Rio. We just shook our heads in disbelief.
